The Trail – From Community Paths to Volcano Landscapes

Run through the natural beauty and community landscapes of Ambae, an island known for its deep cultural identity, strong communities, and extraordinary volcanic environment. The race route will take participants through a mix of community paths, forest tracks, gardens, ridgelines, viewpoints, and trail sections connected to the Manaro volcanic landscape.

A Community-Led Event on Ambae

The Manaro Volcano Run is being developed with local leadership and community participation at its centre.

The event is connected to a broader community project to improve the Manaro trail and supporting facilities, including safer access, resting points, information boards, communication capacity, and long-term tourism assets for Ambanga and surrounding communities.

The goal is not only to welcome runners for one day, but to leave behind practical benefits that support local guides, tourism initiatives, community preparedness, and future visitors.

Safety and Responsible Planning

The Manaro Volcano Run is being prepared in close coordination with local communities, the Local Organising Committee, and relevant authorities.

Following volcanic activity on Ambae, the event was responsibly postponed to 2027 to allow safe planning, proper trail preparation, and alignment with official guidance from the National Disaster Management Office and the Vanuatu Meteorology and Geo-Hazards Department. Safety, community wellbeing, and responsible event delivery remain the top priorities.

Caldera Impact and the Local Organising Committee will continue to monitor conditions and coordinate with authorities and communities throughout the preparation period.
